Hair restoration in Auckland, performed by the doctor who confirms the plan.

Gro Clinics Auckland is a doctor-led clinic in Newmarket offering prescription haircare, regenerative treatment and FUE hair transplants. Which of those is right for you depends on how much of your hair is still active, and that is what the first conversation is for. If a transplant is the answer, your MCNZ-registered doctor confirms the plan with you and performs the procedure personally.

  • Hair restoration is the only thing our doctors work on
  • In-clinic consultations, or by video anywhere in New Zealand
  • Your plan, your procedure and your follow-up all happen in our cutting edge clinic, built and dedicated to hair restoration

Evidence based hair loss treatments at our Auckland clinic

Not everyone needs a procedure. Which of these is right depends on how much of your hair is still active, which is what the first conversation is for.

Gro Prescription Haircare

01 Still active

Prescription Haircare

Prescription-only hair loss medication, assessed and prescribed by a doctor after a consultation. It thickens and strengthens hair that is still active, so it works best when hair loss is caught early. It cannot bring back a follicle that has already died.

How medication is prescribed

02 Thinning

Non-Surgical Treatments

Non-surgical hair loss treatment including growth factor therapy, intended to improve scalp health and give follicles a better environment to grow. Often used alongside medication, or while you decide whether a procedure is right for you.

What non-surgical treatment involves

03 Already gone

Hair Transplants

FUE hair transplants for areas where follicles have already gone, performed by your treating doctor rather than a technician. Suitable for receding hairlines, thinning at the crown and pattern hair loss in men and women, where your donor area supports it.

See if your donor area supports it
What you might be noticing

Most men & women notice it in a photograph before they notice it in a mirror.

Hair loss is gradual, which is exactly what makes it hard to judge. These are the changes men and women most often bring to a first conversation in Auckland.

  • Your hairline sitting further back than it does in photos from a few years ago
  • More scalp showing at the crown, particularly under overhead light
  • Hair at the front that used to sit thick now looking finer, or not covering the way it did
  • Temples that have receded on both sides, or unevenly
  • More hair in the shower or on the pillow than there used to be
  • A pattern you recognise in your parents, grandparents or siblings

None of that tells you what stage you are at, or what would actually help. Some of it responds to medication. Some of it does not. That is what the next part is for.

Why Gro Clinics Auckland

A full spectrum of options, in one Newmarket clinic.

Most clinics can only recommend what they are set up to provide. Gro Auckland brings prescription haircare, preparation and regenerative treatment, and precision hair transplantation together under one roof, so the advice follows what may be appropriate for you, not simply what is available to sell.

Your treating doctor performs the procedure personally.

The doctor who confirms your plan is the doctor who performs it. It is never delegated to a technician. Across the Gro team, doctors have transplanted an average of 2.8 million hairs each.

Your doctor's registration and training can be checked.

Both Auckland doctors appear on the Medical Council of New Zealand public register, with their scope of practice listed, alongside their training and professional memberships.

Hair restoration is the sole clinical focus of our doctors.

No injectables. No skin treatments on the side. Gro invested more than $500,000 in practitioner training and research and development last year, because maintaining a dedicated focus requires ongoing investment.

Follow-up for up to 18 months

with a dedicated out-of-hours contact. A hair transplant is not one appointment. Support continues through the major stages of recovery and growth, with a contact available outside regular clinic hours when questions arise.

Worth saying plainly

Sometimes the best advice we can give isnot to proceed with a hair transplant.

Your donor area is finite, so every follicle needs to be planned carefully. If your hair loss has not stabilised, or a procedure is unlikely to serve you well long term, we will tell you. Sometimes the right outcome is a treatment plan. Sometimes it is knowing when to wait.

Where you actually stand

Start with where you actually are, not with what we provide.

Pick the situation closest to yours, and see what we may recommend if medically eligible, before you book anything.

Five situations, five straight answers. Four of them are not a transplant.

Medical Haircare, a personalised routine for early hair loss

What we may recommend if medically eligible

Prescription Haircare.

It thickens and strengthens hair that is still active. It cannot bring back a follicle that has already died, but it protects what you have still got.

Precise Follicle Placement.

Once a follicle is gone, the only way to bring hair back there is to move a living one in. That is what a transplant actually does.

Four of those five answers are not a transplant. That is the point of the call. Fifteen minutes with an advisor is worth having even when a procedure is the wrong move, because knowing which stage you are at changes what you should do.

Six phases, starting where the journey actually starts.

In-clinic consultation

A planning conversation at the Newmarket clinic, with a Hair Growth Advisor. Your goals, your hair and your options, properly mapped out. Video consultations are available if you are outside Auckland.

Plan reviewed and confirmed

Procedures and prescriptions are only provided after clinical assessment and doctor oversight. Your treating doctor personally reviews your case and confirms the plan with you, on the day of the procedure.

Procedure day

Performed start to finish, extraction to placement, by Dr Leo Chong or Dr Jack Yeoman, in a clinic built specifically for hair restoration. Nothing else happens here.

Recovery, 0 to 3 months

Some swelling and early shedding are normal, part of healing, not a result to judge yet.

Growth and follow-up, 3 to 18 months

New growth builds gradually toward full results, backed by 18 months of free follow-up and a dedicated out-of-hours contact number.

Timelines are typical rather than guaranteed. Recovery and regrowth vary between individuals.

In the procedure room

What actually happens during your procedure.

A plain description of the day, in the order it happens, so you know what you are agreeing to before you agree to it.

Donor-area mapping and extraction planning.

Before anything is extracted, your doctor maps the donor area and plans where grafts are taken from, spreading extraction across it rather than drawing heavily on one region. Donor hair does not renew, so how it is spent is decided first, with the areas you may want to treat later in mind.

Graft handling and preservation.

Between extraction and placement there is a window where grafts are out of the scalp. During that time they may be held in Hypothermosol, a medical-grade solution originally developed for organ transplant procedures, intended to help keep grafts viable. Keeping that window short and controlled is part of the plan, not an afterthought.

Hairline, angle and direction planning.

This is where the four criteria above are decided. Your doctor plans a soft, subtly irregular front edge with finer single hairs at the leading line, sets the angle and direction so transplanted hair follows the hair around it, and distributes density across the whole treated area rather than banking it into a front strip.

Controlled placement by the treating doctor.

Each graft is placed by your treating doctor using a precision placement device that creates the site and places the follicle in one motion, keeping direct control of angle, depth and direction at the moment of placement. Smaller instruments mean less trauma to the scalp and typically a gentler recovery.
